🔴 Red Threshold — the body that showed up, survival, the blood that means life
Mother Mary is on her period. And her flow is sac-red.
I used to dread her. Every month was hell — excruciating, defeating, praying I wouldn't bleed through my sheets or vomit in public. Advil and heavy nighttime pads and just trying to survive it.
Now I receive her differently.
As an adult I've come to understand what the flow actually is — a sigh of relief. A metaphysical reminder of life inside. A monthly confirmation that the body is doing what it came here to do.
So I painted Our Mother in it. Because if the Red threshold is about the right to exist, about the body that survived, then what is more Red than this? What is more sacred than the blood that keeps returning?
She's not apologizing for it. Neither are we.
Printed on archival-quality paper, framed and ready to hang. Made to order in five sizes.
